Swimmers Continue Events at YMCA Nationals in North Carolina

Chillicothe’s Ryan Blum and Lancaster’s Will McMasters both competed in the 100 Fly Tuesday at the YMCA Short Course National Championships. McMasters finished three spots ahead of Blum, 164th and 167th respectively out of a field of 178 swimmers.

More than 1,200 swimmers and 170-plus teams are competing in the meet through Friday.

McMasters will also be swimming Friday in the 100 Breaststroke.

Also in the pool in Greensboro, North Carolina Tuesday was Lancaster’s Jack Hensley, who placed 34th in the 200 Breaststroke prelims. Wednesday, he placed 25th in the finals, finishing 3.56 seconds faster than his time Tuesday. Hensley completed the 400 Intermediate finals in 27th place. He finished 29th in the prelims on Wednesday. In Thursday’s prelims of the 200 IM, Hensley finished 42nd then earned a 25th place in the final with a time of 1:54.02. He’s entered in Friday’s 200 Butterfly.

Max Hensley, also from Lancaster, finished 69th in the 200 Breaststroke Tuesday and the Time Trials for the 200 Freestyle, 400 IM and 200 IM. He’ll also compete in the 100 Breaststroke on Friday.

Jack and Max Hensley teamed with Will McMasters and Adam Moneypenny to finish 66th in the prelims of the 200 Medley Relay on Wednesday.

Blum finished 40th in the 200 Backstroke Time Trial Tuesday and also swam in the 50 Free Time Trial. Via text, Blum told Litter Media “I think my main takeaway is that anybody can get here as long as they put in all the work. You can’t take any days off and that still shows here. I’ve made it but I’ve still got work to do to make sure I’m back and even better next year, too.”

Logan Elm’s Lindsay Bright was entered in two events. She finished 47th in the 200 Freestyle Wednesday and bettered her seeding time by .26 seconds. Thursday she placed 35th in the 500 Freestyle in 5:06.98, .18 seconds faster than her seed time. She placed 10th in both events at the OHSAA Meet in February. Bright participated in the 400 IM Time Trial Tuesday, finishing 17th. She also competed in the 1,000 Free Time Trial, placing 5th, shaving 25.98 seconds off her previous time.

Individually, Canal Winchester’s Adam Moneypenny placed 39th in the 200 Freestyle Time Trial, improving his time by 9.35 seconds. He swam in the Time Trials for the 50 Freestyle, 200 IM and 100 Breaststroke.
