Two area hospitals have welcomed the first babies born in 2024 with a baby girl at Adena Regional Medical Center in Chillicothe and baby boy at Ohio Health Berger Hospital in Circleville.

Abigail and Devante Kennedy welcomed their daughter, Freya Jean-Ann Kennedy, into the world at 3:56pm New Year’s Day. Freya was delivered by certified nurse midwife Natasha McCoy and weighed in at 7 pounds, 5 ounces. She was 20.5 inches long.

In addition to their own joy, Freya’s parents said that when they return home with the new member of their family, “our dogs will be so excited.”

As it does each year, the Adena Women’s Board provided a gift basket for the first baby of the new year born as the result of spontaneous labor that was not induced or scheduled.

During an average year, Adena helps parents bring about 1,000 new lives into the world.

The first baby of the new year at OhioHealth Berger Hospital was Westyn Hunter James DiSantis, born on January 1, 2024 at 2:33pm and weighed 7 pounds, 15 ounces and was 20 inches long. Westyn was born to Madison Cox and Noah DiSantis of Chillicothe. Westyn has an 11 month old sister, Kinsley May DiSantis.

“This was my second delivery at Berger and I couldn’t have asked for better nurses or experience both times,” said Cox. “It was my goal to have a New Years baby. I did a lot of walking around the apartment and up and down stairs.”
