The Lady Vikings of Teays Valley are now alone at the top of the Girls Mid State League Buckeye Division with a 47-37 decision over the Bloom Carroll Lady Bulldogs Thursday.
Teays Valley led at the end of each quarter, except the first, when they trailed Bloom Carroll 15-13. After trailing 13-9, the Bulldogs climbed back to take a 17-16 lead before Sydney Manring got a put back to give the Vikings a lead they would not relinquish. Teays Valley outscored BC 17-6 in the second quarter, finishing with a Alyssa Horsely last second shot to grab a 30-21 advantage at halftime.
That lead expanded to 42-29 after three periods and the final of 47-37, for the 700th program win for the Teays Valley Girls Basketball program.
Horsley led the Lady Vikes scoring with 13 points, followed by Kennedy Younkin with 10, Abby Tier with 9, Kayla Cline with 8, Gabrielle Watkins with 5 and Manring with 2 points.
Bloom Carroll was led by Emily Bratton with 19 points, Marissa Wilkinson with 9, Natalie Lang with 4, Tessa Brooks with 3, and Alyssa Brown with 2 points.
Teays Valley (8-1/11-3) holds a half game lead over Bloom Carroll (8-2/9-4) in the MSL Buckeye. The Vikings are off until hosting Fairfield Union next Thursday while the Bulldogs travel to Olentangy this Monday.
